Central Hunan, the heartland of the province, is one of the primary birthplaces of Huxiang culture. Rich in historical and cultural heritage, Loudi is renowned as the “Hometown of Chinese Martial Arts,” the “Hometown of Chinese Poetry,” and the “Hometown of Remarkable Women.” The Meishan culture and the tradition of farming and scholarship have been passed down here, and a host of patriotic scholars and virtuous individuals—including Jiang Wan, Zeng Guofan, Zeng Jize, Chen Tianhua, Cai Hesen, Luo Shengjiao, Xie Bingying, and Cheng Fangwu—were born in this region. Hunan University of Humanities Science and Technology was founded on this land, which is rich in natural resources and blessed with outstanding talents. For over four decades, the university has embarked upon and continued its journey of pursuing dreams.

The music and learning never end, and flowers in spring come to fruition in autumn. Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology is a provincial-level comprehensive public undergraduate university. Dating back, it was the Lianyuan Normal College Class established in September 1978, and it has evolved through stages including the Lianyuan Branch of Hunan Normal College and Loudi Normal Junior College. Since its founding, Hunan University of Humanities Science and Technology has been benefited from the breeze of reform and opening-up, drawing on the spiritual essence of the land of Central Hunan and carrying forward the cultural heritage of the Huxiang tradition. Upholding the motto of “Plan for the present to achieve long-term goals, and lay a solid foundation for future success,” and the school ethos of “Talent First, Love First,” through years of steady accumulation, the university has gradually formed an excellent spiritual tradition and distinctive educational characteristics, with cultivating numerous outstanding teachers, business leaders and political talents, thus making positive contributions to social progress and the advancement of civilization. The university has been honored with titles such as Role Model in Ethical and Cultural Progress of Hunan Province,  the Excellent Institution for the “Top Leadership Projects” in Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship in Hunan Province, the Advanced Institution for National College Student Social Practice Activities, Hunan Provincial Advanced Institution for Comprehensive Treatment, Hunan Provincial Safe Institution, and one of Hunan’s Top Ten Safe Schools (only three universities in the province received this distinction). The university is also a Hunan Provincial Model School for Governance According to Law, a Hunan Provincial Model School for College Student Employment and Entrepreneurship, and a member institution of The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Education Alliance of China. It is hailed as “an undergraduate institution brimming with vitality, popularity, vigor, confidence, and love.”

The efforts are united and we forge ahead with innovation. In recent years, with the strong support of the community and our alumni, the university has grounded its development in realities, deeply advancing the development in transformation, development with tapping to its potential and development with unique characteristic. Mobilizing the manpower and resources of the whole university, it has actively promoted the development of a high-level application-oriented university, achieving significant progress across all endeavors. The university was upgraded to an undergraduate institution and renamed Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology in 2004. In 2011, it was granted the qualification to cultivate master's degree students in the professional degree of Agricultural Extension under the "Special Needs of the Nation" program. In 2012, it passed the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching quality assessment. In 2017, it was designated as a key institution for the development of master’s degree programs in Hunan Province. In 2018, the university was recognized as a high-level application-oriented and distinctive institution in Hunan’s “Double First-class” initiative.

With spirits passing on from generation to generation, we are looking to the future. In the context of China's economic and social development and the reform of higher education, standing at a new historical starting point, Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology will absorb the essence of China’s outstanding traditional culture, draw on and absorb modern achievements of both Chinese and foreign civilizations, summarize and refine its educational experience and scientifically draw the blueprint of its development.With focusing on the goal of developing an application-oriented university, the university will vigorously advance the “Seven Major Projects”—Leading the university with party building, strengthening with talents,  enhancing with teaching quality, promoting with disciplines, popularizing with openness, securing with safety management and beautifying with infrastructure—to further strengthen the cultivation of practical talents, foster a distinctive school culture actively, and to refine our educational characteristics, enhance the school level and expand the influence, thus to strive to contribute wisdom and strength to the development of the country and the progress of society.

Spring rain nourishes flowers, clear springs irrigate rice; a breeze blows from the south, nurturing the young shoots. It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to cultivate a person—the road ahead is long and the task is weighty.
